Massacres and Assassinations

This week The History Channel is showing some very cool 1-hour documentaries with the blanket title, “10 Days that Unexpectedly Changed America”. Two of these shows feature my hometowns, although both are for scandalous reasons.

Last night, my sleepy little hometown of Mystic, Connecticut was featured in the documentary called, “Massacre at Mystic”. Lovely. It was all about the Pequot Massacre of 1637. Basically, this was the milestone that defined how the new “Americans” & the Native Americans related to each other until the dawn of the casino.

Tonight, “Murder at the Fair” is airing at 9:00pm. This one takes place in my new hometown of Buffalo, and deals with the assassination of President William McKinley. Lovely.

Two footnotes:

  1. My great-grandfather was named after William McKinley.
  2. As I’m writing this, “This is My Town,” by Eddie From Ohio is playing.
