For My Fellow Eagan-In-Law On Her Birthday
Oh Esther, dear, I love you so.
You make me laugh and smile.
Although when I laugh at your expense,
It's that much more worthwhile.
You're getting older, there's no doubt.
And the time will soon come, I'm afraid,
When you can't recall,
Or remember at all,
All the jokes on you I've played.
So on your birthday I solemnly pledge
To do you not a wrong.
No salt-spiked drinks,
No fan club links,
But it won't last for long.
I hope you enjoy your temporary peace
From all things that are me.
For next week we'll renew the fight.
I recommend you sew your pockets tight,
And check your email every night.
I'll be around.
Happy Birthday to the little sister I never had!
